Major Duties and Responsibilities
Underwriting for other Commercial Lenders
Underwrite commercial loans for extensions of credit review existing loans and maintain a prudent portfolio to achieve business lending goals.
- Review and evaluate business loan applications, analyze financial statements and interpret key ratios and the member’s ability to pay using a global cash ow approach to determine the needs of the member.
- Evaluate commercial properties using an income approach to volume and other market data to determine credit risk.
- Underwrite business loans and complete loan presentations/annual reviews for review by a senior lender or analyst.
- Analyze monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports provided by each borrower to ensure loan quality and strengthen business relationships.
- Review each loan annually and propose re-structure if appropriate.
Sales and Portfolio Management
- Handles incoming branch referrals and all unsecured requests.
- Ensure that renewals of existing portfolio are performed on a timely basis to avoid administrative past dues.
Perform other duties as assigned to support effective department operations.
- Request financial information from existing and prospective borrowers.
- Provide payment notifications on required loans.
- Provide support through answering member questions on deposit and loan products, business documentation and compliance.
Assist in refining the current lending system to create a prudent, streamlined lending system that accurately assesses risk, works effectively and maintains compliance with all NCUA rules and regulations.
- Review and suggest solutions to streamline business loans in the credit union’s software programs
- Review file documentation and lender logging procedures, verifying that loan documents are appropriate for the loan type and accurately protect Blaze.
Assist Commercial Lending Management to develop and maintain portfolio through monitoring reports and procedures to meet department performance expectations.
- Provide input on month end portfolio reports, delinquency reports, and loan loss analysis.
- Review reports, presentation templates and other business service processes to increase operational efficiency.
Organize, coordinate and process business loan requests.
- Gather and compile documentation required for loan application review.
- Assemble financial statements and information for review.
- Organize loan files.
- Compile, organize and review all loan for accuracy and completeness.
Other Duties
- Comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control

Experience/Education/Certifications/Licenses
- Minimum High School degree or equivalent
- Minimum 3 to 4 years' similar or related experience in financial or related industry
Demonstrated Knowledge
Knowledge of:
- Credit Union consumer and commercial products, services, policies and procedures
- Financial industry and related products in order to discuss them confidentially with members
- MerdianLink
- SBA and other guaranteed loan programs related to small businesses
- Microsoft Office with advanced Excel ability
Ability to:
- Analyze financial statement and global cash flows to determine potential solutions with previous experience using software or similar product
- Underwrite loans using a global cash flow approach
- Coordinate priorities, meet deadlines and work independently with minimal supervision
- Use clear written and verbal communication skills
- Make decisions and resolve problems efficiently to provide service to our members
- Problem solve, to make recommendations, and to exercise judgment in extending credit
- Organize multiple tasks and to maintain a courteous demeanor in a busy, high stress work environment
- Recognize and troubleshoot system problems and inefficiencies
Communication Skills
Ability to proactively respond to members/staff to problem solve based on guidelines; written communications are based on templates but can be modified
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit and stand; answer calls; operate computer; interact with internal staff and public on the phone; travel to designated offices; lift up to 20 lbs.

We are committed to providing salary ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on your experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity considerations.
The salary range for this position is: $66,192.04-$85,000. This range reflects the base salary for this position. We have other benefits associated with this position which include: low-cost medical (as low as $20 a paycheck), dental insurance, vision insurance, quarterly bonuses, generous vacation and sick time hours, paid leave options, up to 6% 401k contribution, and tuition reimbursement.
