Description

New hires will receive a $1000.00 sign-on bonus ($500 after 90-days of employment, then $500 after 180-days).

SMW Financial Credit Union is seeking an individual to join the Accounting Department at our Lino Lakes branch.

Role

Staff Accountant is responsible for providing accounting support to include general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and accounting and regulatory reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS), National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) rules and regulations, National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) operating rules, and other applicable regulatory authorities.  This is a full-time position and the successful candidate will be paid a hiring bonus of $1,000 ($500 after first 90 days and $500 at 180 days).

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation of financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system, core system and departments.
  • Reconciles various general ledger and external accounts daily and prepares necessary clearing general ledger entries.
  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Reconciles work by analyzing, researching, and verifying GL information and comparing system reports to balances.
  • Completes monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
  • Assists in month-end close processes.
  • Assists in overseeing the accounts payable, prepaid, fixed asset, corporate card, and other core accounting processes.
  • Assists in overseeing the escheatment, 1099-R, 1099- QA, fair market value, 1099-MISC, FR2900, backup withholding and other applicable regulatory transmittal and/or reporting processes.
  • Assists with providing technical guidance or work direction to Accounting Clerks and Accounting Specialists.
  • Reviews current work processes and makes recommendations to enhance workflow for greater efficiency.
  • Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes.
  • Assists in implementing continuous process improvements that streamline processes and increase accuracy.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Two to five years of accounting or related experience, preferably in a financial institution
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Ability to prioritize multiple, and sometimes, conflicting tasks.
